Happy Asian Pacific American Heritage Month!

Welcome back to another blog post! Happy Asian Pacific American Heritage Month! This month is important to all the Asian Americans out there since we are recognized with all the accomplishments that we have achieved. Asian Americans as a whole have done some amazing things over the past years in the industries such as entertainment and sports. Being able to be recognized for how far we have come is amazing.

In this post, I would like to talk about Asians in the entertainment industry. Recently there was a movie called Crazy Rich Asians that made an appearance. This movie pushed forward the movement of Asian actors and actresses on the big screen of Hollywood. The last movie with an Asian majority cast was the Joy Luck Club and that was released 25 years ago so it has been a while since you have seen Asian faces lol. In the past, Hollywood was known to whitewash Asian characters. They would have white actors play the role of the Asian characters by using a lot of makeup and prosthetics to make them look really “Asian”. Nowadays, Hollywood has learned from that and is able to get actual Asian actors and actresses to play out their appropriate roles. We as a society have made great progress towards including all ethnicities and allowed them to portray their culture correctly and as time continues and the “Asian Wave” continues to push forward, I hope that everyone can learn and appreciate the different cultures within the Asian cultures such as Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipinos, etc. because within each of those cultures, there are unique quirks that make them different from others.
