It's the last day of school. There would only be 5 more minutes left in class before school would be out for three months. We can all hang out with our friends, sleep in and do whatever we want. Or so I thought. Most people looked forward to summer vacation. All my friends brings up their plans whether it’s sleeping in and doing nothing or going to a lavish vacation spot. However, for the typical Asian kid, summer vacation meant summer homeschool. I had to wake up at a certain time everyday during the summer. There was a set schedule that had to be followed. The day consists of waking up, doing workbook problems, taking a lunch break and then continuing doing workbook problems until dinner which after then was I able to spend some free time doing whatever I wanted. It was not that enjoyable. It was really bad to the point were sometimes I longed of going back to school even though that would sound so bizarre to any other kid. Mentally is was tough since you know you are on summer break so your work effort just slowly declines. The worst part for me specifically was the fact that I couldn’t drag out the time since my mom assigned actual pages I had to complete before I earned my free time. The best part of the whole summer school concept was when I started high school and the workbooks no longer reached that grade level. I believe that my parents wanted to refine my academic skills and to this day I am grateful for their dedication to push me as hard as they did but I am also glad that I am able to do what I want during the summers because everyone deserves a break every once in a while.
