Unolingo or Duolingo?

Xin chào người đẹp các bạn hôm nay thế nào? That means hello everyone, how are you today? One of the skills that I am very fortunate to be able to have is the power of being bilingual. My first language I learned how to speak was Vietnamese. That was the only way I could communicate to my grandparents and my relatives in Vietnam. When you learn another language, it is like adding a super weapon to your arsenal. Just like in English, Vietnamese has their fair share of swear words and when my parents were angry at us, you can tell because they would fire their super weapon and I would feel their wrath. Sad to say, my parents regret using it because just like an actual weapon, anyone can pick it up and learn how to use it and I learned their naughty words. Being bilingual also means being able to talk smack about people with your family. We would go to a public place like the store and we would say stuff like, “trời ơi, cậu bé này béo quá” which means oh dear that boy is so fat. (I am kidding, we would never do that. Please use your verbal weapon responsibility). I know I am describing this power in a bad way but there are good things to come with it. For instance, you can bring up that you are bilingual to people that you meet to spark a conversation. It makes a great way to break the ice with people you first meet. You can also be a translator for someone if you see them struggling to figure out where they need to go or what they need to do. Being bilingual seems all fun and games but with power like this, there are always drawbacks. First, when I was younger, I had to go to ESL classes (English Second Language). I had the pressure of learning English because I had to go to school knowing how to communicate with my friends and teachers. Another drawback for me personally, is when I talk, I tend to notice that I am not as accurate in the grammer department as some of my friends who grew up with English. It is tough having two different sets of rules that you alternate from home to school/work everyday and learning which set to use at the proper time. As you get older, the harder it is to learn a new language. There have been many times where my friends said they wish they were able to speak another language and everytime I hear that, I am grateful that I had the opportunity to be able to speak another language.
