Hey everybody welcome back to another post. Those that have stuck around with us, thank you for your support and those that just discovered us, welcome and subscribe to our blog if you like what we are writing about. Thank you to everyone who has continually supported us.
We all know the Asian stereotypes by know, “all Asians are supposed to become doctors, lawyers, or engineers.” Unfortunately, that stereotype is true. Many Asians, specifically Asian Americans are “suggested” to go into the doctor, engineers, or lawyers route since that is the only jobs Asian parents know. On top with the stereotype being true, there is even a term to call these Asians: “Yappie”. A Yappie or a YAP as people may call them stands for Young Asian Professional which is for the young Asian student pursuing a professional or “safe” jobs. Safe jobs are jobs with no risks financially and it is your classic 9-5 job. Asian parents love the 9-5 jobs because it gives them a peace in mind that no matter what, you are getting paid on a scheduled basis and not having to worry about getting paid like people in freelance or creative jobs. I will admit that Brian and myself are yappies but we weren’t “suggested” to go into this field. We genuinely enjoy the path that we are embarking on. Being a yappie isn’t a bad thing either, you can be proud of being a yappie as long as that is what you want to do in life. However, if you were forced to be on this yappie train, explore around and see what you find interesting career wise. Asian people aren’t all yappies, there are plenty of creative Asians out there making a great living.
Here is a great short film series on the topic. I highly recommend it.
